A hedge trimmed at the wrong moment loses its flowers, scorches in the heat or thins out at the bottom. Cut just after a flush of growth, it responds with dense new shoots right where the shears have been.

Questions about hedge trimming
How often should a hedge be trimmed?
Most hedges look their best with two or three cuts a year. Fast growers such as lilly pilly may need more through the warmer months. We set the schedule around the species.
Can you fix an overgrown hedge?
Usually, yes. Most hedges can be brought back over a season or two by cutting in stages, which gives them time to regrow from inside. Cutting everything back at once can leave bare wood that is slow to recover.
When is the best time to trim a hedge in Sydney?
The main cut usually follows the spring flush of growth, with a lighter tidy in late summer or autumn. Heavy cuts are best kept out of the hottest weeks, when fresh leaves scorch.
Do you take the clippings away?
Yes. Clippings are raked out of the beds and leave with us.
